Karama Yemen awards ‘Driving Lessons’

Human rights fest in Yemen awards Iran’s short film ‘Driving Lessons’.

Karama Yemen Human Rights Film Festival has awarded Iran’s short film ‘Driving Lessons’.

‘Driving Lessons’, directed by Marzieh Riahi, was named the Best Fiction Film in the 2nd edition of the Yemeni event on Thursday.

“Bahareh must have her traditional, chauvinistic husband accompany her during driving lessons so that she and her instructor are not left together without a third party’s presence,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The film is starring Linda Kiani, Alireza Sanifar, Salar Khamseh, and Sanaz Mesbah.

‘Driving Lessons’ has grabbed several awards at various international festivals, including the 18th Topaz Film Festival by Women in Film Dallas in the US, the 2020 edition of Hebden Bridge Film Festival (HBFF) in the UK, and the 25th Aichi International Women’s Film Festival (AIWFF) in Japan.

Karama Yemen Human Rights Film Festival is organized by Yemen Will Triumph (YWT), a non-profit civil society organization. It focuses on human rights films.

The second edition of the festival was held virtually on December 18-31, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
